Physicists Explain How Human Eyes Can Detect Quantum Effects

Physicists Explain How Human Eyes Can Detect Quantum Effects

(PhysOrg.com) — By greatly amplifying one photon from an entangled photon pair, physicists have theoretically shown that human eyes can be used as detectors to observe quantum effects. Usually, detecting quantum phenomena requires sensitive photon detectors or similar technology, keeping the quantum world far removed from our everyday experience. By showing that it’s possible to perform quantum optics experiments with human eyes as detectors, the physicists can bring quantum phenomena closer to the macroscopic level and to everyday life.

New Perspectives on Cancer Surgery

New Perspectives on Cancer Surgery

(PhysOrg.com) — Instead of the classic scalpel, surgeons can also operate with an electroscalpel. A significant advantage to this technique is that while a cut is being made, blood vessels are closed off and hemorrhaging eliminated. Now another advantage may be added as well: a German-Hungarian research team has developed a mass-spectrometry-based technique by which tissues can be analyzed during a surgical procedure.

Noaptea, in timp ce noi dormim. In somn, simti cum in buric ai ceva. Te trezesti cu greu si iti dai seama ca-i un arc. Sau te pipaie ceva in zona fundului. Nu, nu e un vis erotic, e un alt arc. Trebuia facut ceva. Salteaua trebuia pensionata…

Cleaning Up on Dirty Coal

Technology Review: Cleaning Up on Dirty Coal

The industrial boomtown of Dongguan in southeast China’s Pearl River Delta could soon host one of the country’s most sophisticated power plants, one that uses an unconventional coal-gasification technology to make the dirtiest coal behave like clean-burning natural gas. Its developers, Atlanta-based utility Southern Company and Houston-based engineering firm KBR, announced the licensing deal with Dongguan Power and Chemical Company this month.

Dell Latitude Z Hands On: Kills Cords Completely With Wireless Charging – video

Dell Latitude Z Hands On: Kills Cords Completely With Wireless Charging – Dell Latitude Z – Gizmodo

Similar to the Palm Pre but on a much bigger scale, the Z has power coils built in to the base of the notebook and so it charges wirelessly, through a magnetic inductive stand that’s an extra $200. Supposedly, it takes the same amount of time to recharge as a normal notebook power cord.

The love for no cords doesn’t stop there. You can also buy the $200 wireless dock and hook up all your peripherals (printer, monitor, mouse, etc.) to it rather than to the computer. It then communicates with the notebook itself which has Ultra Wide Band technology built-in so there is no need to add an extra dongle.

CoolerMaster Storm Sentinel Advance Gaming Mouse Review

CoolerMaster Storm Sentinel Advance Gaming Mouse Review » Page 6 – Conclusion – Overclockers Club

I didn’t really have any major expectations going intp this review. Upon first reading the specifications on the box I knew there and then that this mouse was truly superior to the Logitech G5. One of the really great features of this mouse had to be the on-board memory which allows you to store settings and eliminates the need to install the software on the computer to use it. I was very much surprised and impressed by the LED features of the mouse. I like the ability to change between 7 different colors on the LEDs. On that note, this mouse had to be the most customizable I’ve ever had. I really came to appreciate the bleeding edge 5600DPI and the precision of the dual tracking lasers is quite astounding. The comfort of this mouse was quite awesome, as it was easy to grip and it did fit my hand well. I would have to give props for the OLED screen which not only displays your current DPI settings, but also features a changeable logo so you could easily make this mouse your own. Last but not least, the price is only $69 and for only $69, this mouse packs a load of features that you might not find in competing brands.

Pros:

* Very comfortable
* Many customizable features
* LEDs
* OLED screen
* Dual tracking lasers for precise movement
* DPI adjusts up to 5600DPI.
* Great price

Cons:

* None

Screen Space Ambient Occlusion – Wikipedia

Screen Space Ambient Occlusion – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) is a rendering technique for efficiently approximating the well-known computer graphics ambient occlusion effect in real time. It was used for the first time in a video game in the 2007 PC game Crysis made by Crytek.[citation needed]

The algorithm is executed purely on the computer’s GPU and implemented as a pixel shader, analyzing the scene depth buffer which is stored in a texture. For every pixel on the screen, the pixel shader samples the depth values around the current pixel and tries to compute the amount of occlusion from each of the sampled points. In its simplest implementation, the occlusion factor depends only on the depth difference between sampled point and current point.

Will Intel and USB make fiber optics mainstream?

Will Intel and USB make fiber optics mainstream? | Deep Tech – CNET News

Intel’s hope for Light Peak is to create a single connection for video, storage devices, the network, printers, Webcams, and anything else that plugs into a PC. Light Peak uses circuitry that can juggle multiple communication protocols at the same time, and the Light Peak promise is for a universal connector to replace today’s incompatible sockets for USB, FireWire, DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI. It’s a hot-plug technology, meaning that devices can be linked when they’re up and running.

Intel has pre-production chips and said the technology will be ready to ship in 2010. In its current form, Light Peak can transfer data at 10Gbps each direction along the fiber optic line, but Intel said Light Peak will reach much higher speeds–100Gbps in the next decade, according to Jason Ziller, director of Intel’s optical input-output program office.

What’s the best 120mm case fan?

bit-tech.net | Review – What’s the best 120mm case fan?

Which Fan to Buy
From our extensive testing of these 22 fans, we can narrow your choice of fan to just two for air-cooled cases:

The Best 120mm Fan For Air-Cooled Cases
Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120mm
UK price (at time of review): £13.21 (inc VAT)
US price (at time of review): NA
If you want a 120mm fan that moves enough air to keep your PC cool without having to worry about excessive noise or vibrations, the Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120mm is near perfect, as it’s capable of moving 36cfm while emitting a near inaudible 20.7dBA.

Scythe Gentle Typhoon D1225 C12B4AP-14
UK price (at time of review): £13.00 (inc VAT)
US price (at time of review): $17.99 (ex tax)
The Scythe Gentle Typhoon is noisier than the Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120mm, but moves a lot more air. What’s more, when slowed down with a rheostat (not supplied) to a similar noise level to the Sharkoon, it still moves a lot more air.
